Nigerian star Victor Osimhen says Ivorian icon Didier Drogba will always be his idol.
Drogba is widely regarded as one of Chelsea’s greatest players and the retired striker was named CAF African Footballer of the Year twice.
Osimhen, who recently joined Italian giants Napoli from French side Lille OSC, has opened up about his love for Drogba.
“Drogba would forever be my idol and I’m so grateful to him,” Osimhen told Caf website.
“Choosing him as a role model has really been helpful since my growing up years.
“I have not met him yet and I’m really looking forward to seeing him and getting one of his signed jerseys; that would really be a dream come true for me.”
Much is expected from the 21-year-old striker at Napoli after joining the Serie A side for a club-record fee of €70 million potentially rising to €80 million with add-ons two months ago.
Napoli had Argentine icon Diego Maradona on their books between 1984 and 1991 and he is considered a club legend.
“Now, playing in a club that used to have Diego Maradona, who is undoubtedly one of the greatest players ever, is inspiring,” he added.
“Maradona is an idol here in Napoli and I have seen his pictures everywhere. He is truly the best. To be here and to play on the same pitch of Maradona is another dream came true.”
