Chelsea are set to complete the signing of Edouard Mendy from French Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais this week.
The Senegal international will move to Stamford Bridge for a reported figure of £22 million and offer valuable competition to Kepa Arrizabalaga who’s continued struggles were highlighted in the club’s 2-0 loss at home to Liverpool on Sunday.
Chelsea boss Frank Lamaprd has revealed that former Blues and Rennais goalkeeper Petr Cech had a big say in the signing. The former Czech Republic international now serves as a technical and performance advisor at the London club.
“Petr was important in that because goalkeeper is a very particular position. Petr Cech was the best in the world in that position for a long time so he’s obviously had a big say in this situation,” Lampard said.
“From my point of view, I lean heavily on him when it comes to goalkeeping today and in the future. So yes, he was very influential.”
