On the day of his 36th birthday we relive Siphiwe Tshabalala’s iconic World Cup goal.

The former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder scored the opening goal of the 2010 FIFA World Cup hosted in South Africa.

After running onto a pin-point pass from Kagisho Dikgacoi, Tshabalala took one touch before firing an unstoppable left-footed shot into the corner of the net to send the Bafana Bafana fans inside FNB Stadium — and the rest scattered across South Africa — into absolute delium.

It remains one of the most talked about goals in World Cup history and the 2010 showpiece will forever be synonymous with Shabba’s strike — the first goal scored at a World Cup hosted on African soil.
