Nigerian legend Peter Odemwingie has explained how the Super Eagles will benefit from Victor Osimhem’s transfer to Italy’s SSC Napoli.
The 21-year-old marksman secured a big-money move to Napoli from French Lille OSC where he netted 18 goals in 38 competitive matches.
Odemwingie, who scored 10 times in 63 international games for Nigeria, believes Osimhen will develop in the Italian Serie A and this will impact the Super Eagles.
“When you see the numbers, they are talking about Osimhen, the goals he scored last season in France for Lille, then he should be a Premier League player,” Odemwingie on Complete Sports.
“Maybe there was no offer from the Premier League because mid-table teams in England can’t afford him. He can do well in Serie A too because he is one of the top strikers in Europe at the moment.”
Osimhen joined the Serie A side for a club-record fee of €70 million potentially rising to €80 million with add-ons two months ago.
“His move to Napoli is good too. They have a great history because Diego Maradona played there. They have also been consistent in recent times and they have a solid team,” the retired forward added.
“Italy is also a very tough league with the best defenders, so I think Osimhen will further develop there and that will be very good for the national team too.”
Osimhen has netted four goals in nine international matches and he is part of the Nigeria squad which will face Algeria and Tunisia in friendly games later this month.
