Arsenal have completed the signing of Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid.
The Gunners confirmed the signing in the late hours of Monday evening after activating the 27-year-old’s release clause and agreeing personal terms. Partey has put pen-to-paper on a long term contract and will wear the No 18 jersey at Emirates Stadium.
Partey came through the ranks in the Spanish capital and made 188 appearances for Atleti, in which time he won both the Europa League and Super Cup in 2018.
Last season, the Ghana international made 46 appearances across all competitions, playing a key role in the club’s third place finish in LaLiga and reaching the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals which included memorable wins over Liverpool.
“We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we’re now delighted to add such a high quality player to our squad. He is a dynamic midfielder with great energy. He brings a lot of experience from a top club that has competed at the highest level in La Liga and the Champions League for several years,” said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta as per the club’s official website.
“We’re very impressed with his attitude and his approach to the game. He’s an intelligent footballer and we’re looking forward to him integrating into our system and contributing to the progress we’re building at the moment at the club.”
Partey will link up with his new teammates after the international break and could make his debut away to Manchester City on October 17.
