Asante Kotoko communication director Moses Antwi Benefo says now is the perfect time for veteran striker Asamoah Gyan to sign with the club.
The Black Stars’ all-time leading goal scorer is currently a free agent after seeing out his tenure at Indian Super League side NorthEast United, and has talked openly in the past about his desire to end his career with Kotoko.
The 34-year-old will have major financial demands, which the Porcupine Warriors’ hierarchy will work on negotiating, but Benefo believes the ‘star power’ of Gyan will make him a worthwhile investment.
“We believe the time is now for Asamoah Gyan to join Asante Kotkoko as he has always wished. The time is now, not any later date,” the communications director is quoted by Football Ghana.
“He will be a crowd puller and also attract sponsors, the brand Asamoah Gyan is very marketable and will attract a lot of sponsors.
“One thing we can’t also take away from Asamoah Gyan is the rate at which he scores, he does that with ease.
“But the only barrier now is his (financial) demands but am sure our CEO, who has a good relationship with him, can sort that one, not forgetting a directive from Manhyia that we should make Kotoko financially viable so that will also be taken into consideration as we negotiate with him.”
Gyan, who started out at Ghana’s Liberty Professionals, has also featured in Serie A, Ligue 1, the Premier League, Turkish Super Lig and Chinese Super League amongst others in his decorated club career.
