South African teenager Rowan Human has joined Israeli Premier League giants Maccabi Tel-Aviv on a one-year deal, with the option of another two years.

Human, 19, came through the ranks at the now defunct Bidvest Wits and was one of the star players towards the end of the 2019/20 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.

He was heavily linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs following the conclusion of the campaign and Gavin Hunt’s subsequent appointment as Amakhosi head coach, but he will now further his career in Israel with the aim of moving to one of Europe’s top leagues.

Hunt, who promoted Human to the Clever Boys first team, described the teenager as the best player in his age group back in August.

“He’s the best player in South Africa at his age. There’s no better player than him‚ I believe – I haven’t seen a better player at his age. And I think he’ll be a superstar,” said Hunt.

“But I’ve got him for the next two‚ three weeks‚ and that’ll be the last time I’ll see him. So I’m disappointed about that.”

The South African youth international will reportedly be sent out on-loan to neighbouring Betar Tel-Aviv/Bat Yam, who play in Israel’s second division, for the upcoming season.
