The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has outlined the new dates for the resumption of domestic football in the country.

Following the cancellation of the 2019-20 Uganda Premier League months ago, the East African country has been without local football since March due to the restrictions imposed to help fight the coronavirus pandemic.

However, with the government having given the green light for the resumption of both contact and non-contact sports, the 2020-21 Premier League – which was originally scheduled to begin on October 17 – will get underway on November 20.

“The kick-off of the 2020/2021 season is postponed from Saturday 17th October 2020 to Friday 20th November 2020,” read a statement from FUFA on their official website.

“The Club Licensing exercise has been extended to 15th October 2020 to enable the process of planning and release of fixtures by Tuesday 20th October 2020.

“The player registration period is extended by four weeks to 19th October 2020.”

The dates for the promotion playoffs will also be released soon, with the matches set to be hosted at the FUFA Technical Centre Njeru.

The Ugandan Cup has been scrapped temporarily, while a recent agreement will also see FUFA and the clubs share costs for coronavirus testing – an essential element in restarting the league safely.
