Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew has won the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Footballer of the Year award for 2019.
The Eagles player took the gong ahead of new Arsenal signing Thomas Partey and China-based midfielder Mubarak Wakaso.
Ayew was not able to receive the award in person at the ceremony in Accra this past weekend, but was presented with the trophy, by Ghana Football Association president Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku, while in the Black Stars’ training camp in Turkey.
“Thank you to Swag Ghana! I’m honoured and grateful to receive the Swag Foreign Footballer of the Year Award,” Ayew posted on Twitter.

Ayew’s performances for Palace helped the Eagles enjoy a strong campaign in the Premier League (for which he was awarded the club’s Player of the Season as well as the Players’ Player of the Season gongs), while on the international front he notably scored two goals for the Black Stars in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
The striker featured for Ghana in Friday’s 3-0 loss to Mali and will hope to inspire a better showing from the Black Stars when they tackle Qatar later today.
