Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy has warned Wydad Casablanca that the Red Devils are determined to add the CAF Champions League to the Egyptian Premier League title they have already claimed this season.
Ahly and Wydad are scheduled to meet in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal on the evening of Saturday 17 October, as CAF club competitions finally resume after being suspended due to the coronavirus eight months ago.
El-Shennawy, who has been a key figure in Ahly’s dominance of the domestic scene in Egypt, talked about his club’s preparations for the showdown with their Moroccan opponents.
“One championship is not enough is not enough for Al Ahly,” El-Shennawy told the club’s official website, as quoted by KingFut.
“We compete annually for five championships, and we are required to claim them all or win at least four of them.
“The club’s policy and the players’ mentality is to win every tournament we compete in, and hopefully, we will lift the cups of future competitions,” he added.
The goalkeeper went on to discuss new head coach Pitso Mosimane, with the South African recently replacing Rene Weiler.
“I had a session with Mosimane before the Arab Contractors match, and I see him focusing on the team and achieving his goals. We feel optimistic with him in charge,” said the ‘keeper.
“Everyone is focusing on the Wydad match. We know them well and we will watch even more of their games to prepare well for them.”
