Guinean Football Federation (FGF) has announced that the friendly match between the National Elephants and Gambia has been cancelled.
This comes after reports indicating that Guinea captain Naby Keita has tested positive for the coronavirus emerged.
The Liverpool FC midfielder missed the National Elephants’ international friendly match against Cape Verde which they won 2-1 on Saturday.
“The friendly match Guinea vs the Gambia, which was to be played on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, in Portugal, has just been cancelled.”
“Indeed, with several players tested positive and cases of injury, Syli National now has a squad of fewer than 11 players available, including a single goalkeeper.”
“This does not allow the Guinean selection to play this friendly match against the Gambia,” a statement read.
Guinea Team Manager Aly Kader Touré explained that they had nine players, who available for their friendly against the Gambia.
“We only have nine suitable players at our disposal,” Syli National Team Manager Aly Kader Touré said.
“Remember that Guinea dominated Cape Verde in its first friendly match played this Saturday, October 10 in Faro (2-1).”
