Mali international Moussa Djenepo is set to miss Southampton’s English Premier League (EPL) clash against Chelsea on Saturday.
This has been confirmed by Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl as the Saints look to make it three wins in a row in the EPL against the Blues.
Djenepo scored in the Saints’ last match as they secured a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion in a league game just before the recent international FIFA break.
“He had a problem with his hamstring in the first half [against West Brom] – he even scored with this problem,” Hasenhuttl told club website.
“It was at the beginning of the game. “When we see the scans now, it’s definitely an injury, and this is the biggest problem for Moussa all the time.
“This is something we have to work on with him, because he has some physical deficiencies. There is always a push back every time he makes a step into the team, and this is a problem for us.”
The 22-year-old winger was called up to the Mali national team by coach Mohamed Magassouba during the FIFA break.
Djenepo was an unused substitute as Mali’s Eagles defeated the Black Stars of Ghana 3-0 in an international match on October 09.
He has netted twice in 15 international matches for the Eagles.
