Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has stated that his team could have racked up an even more convincing win over Wydad Casablanca this past weekend.

The Egyptian giants put one foot in the final of the 2019-20 CAF Champions League with a 2-0 win over Wydad in Morocco on Saturday night, with goals from Mohamed Magdi Kafsha and Ali Maaloul.

It was a sweet victory for Mosimane, who has had some memorable battles with Wydad in recent years while in charge of South African side Mamelodi Sundowns.

However, he is adamant that 2-0 flattered the hosts and the Red Devils could have enjoyed an even greater advantage heading into the return game in Cairo on Friday 23 October.

“It was a difficult game as Wydad was fighting to return to the game,” Mosimane told the post-match news conference as per Ahram Online.

“We made the most of Wydad’s defensive mistakes … we could have scored a third and fourth but I’m happy with the players’ performance.

“The penalty [converted by Maaloul] save gave us more confidence, and we seized the chance to score a second.”

Mosimane is hoping to lead Ahly to a record-extending ninth Champions League title and a first since 2013.
