Sundowns, SuperSport off to winning start in DStv Premiership

Tshwane giants Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United got off to a winning start in the new 2020/21 DStv Premiership season.


Sundowns thrashed their Gauteng rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the biggest match of the round which was played at the FNB Stadium.


Peter Shalulile, Kermit Erasmus and Themba Zwane all scored as the defending champions humbled Chiefs.


Chiefs’ Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates also failed to secure a win as they fought back to hold AmaZulu FC in a game which was played at the Jonsson Kings Stadium.


Frank Mhango handed Pirates the lead, but Lehlohonolo Majoro equalized for AmaZulu as the two teams drew 1-1.


Meanwhile, SuperSport secured a hard-fought victory over Black Leopards in a match which took place at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.


Matsatsantsa were reduced to 10 players in the 60th minute when Onismor Bhasera was sent off, but two goals from Bradley Grobler inspired the team to a 2-0 win over Leopards.


While Victor Letsoalo’s goal cancelled out Ntsako Makhubela’s opener as Bloemfontein Celtic held Lamontville Golden Arrows to a 1-1 draw at the Dr Molemela Stadium.


At the Cape Town Stadium, Mduduzi Mdantsane scored for Cape Town City as they drew 1-1 with Chippa United, who netted through Augustine Chidi Kwem.


Lastly, two goals from Richard Mbuli and Nhlanhla Mgaga inspired Baroka FC to a 2-1 win over Maritzburg United, whose goal was netted by Ali Jose Meza at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
