Bafana Bafana head coach Molefi Ntseki has announced his squad for next month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers versus São Tomé and Príncipe.
South Africa face the island nation in back-to-back fixtures in November, as they aim to book their spot at the 2022 tournament which was postponed by a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ghana currently lead Group C after two rounds of fixtures. South Africa lost 2-0 away to the Black Stars in November last year before beating Sudan 1-0 at Orlando Stadium.
Ntseki has recalled Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune despite a difficult outing on the opening weekend of the 2020/21 DStv Premiership season for the veteran shot-stopper. Khune, 33, made key errors and also conceded a penalty in a 3-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Midfield quartet Dean Furman, Bongani Zungu, Kamohelo Mokotjo and Thulani Serero have also been recalled, as has SuperSport United’s Bradley Grobler following a run of three goals in his opening two games of the season.
There was also a first call-up for Maritzburg United defender Rushine de Reuck who was named as the 2019/20 Absa Premiership Defender of the Season last week.
