Nigeria international Semi Ajayi will benefit from playing alongside Branislav Ivanovic at West Bromwich Albion.

This is according to English football legend Tim Sherwood after the Premier League club signed the accomplished Serbian defender Ivanovic.

Ajayi and Ivanovic started in central defence for the Baggies as they drew 1-1 with Brighton and Hove Albion in a Premier League game on Monday.

Ivanovic played 262 Premier League matches for English giants Chelsea where he won the competition three times.

“Branislav Ivanovic is a decent player, he’s a good professional, they will learn off him,” Sherwood said on All Nigeria Soccer.

“Ajayi is going to learn with him – talking to him throughout the game – good English, I think he is a descent signing.

“I think when you are struggling defensively, certainly when you are new to the Premier League and then come back to the Premier League,” he added.

“I think you need that man, that leader, someone who is going to calm them down. “Ivanovic will give them that, he’s probably the best they could find at the time.”

Ajayi, who joined West Brom from English side Rotterham United in 2019, is in his debut season in the Premier League and he has played four games in the competition.

The 26-year-old player has played 13 international matches for Nigeria.
