Both Mamelodi Sundowns (0-0) and Orlando Pirates (1-1) were held at home in Wednesday night’s 2020-21 DStv Premiership fixtures.
The defending champions huffed and puffed but ultimately failed to find a way past Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila’s defence as the Limpopo club claimed a valuable point at Loftus Stadium. Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana hit the crossbar in the first-half in what was a largely frustrating outing for the Brazilians.
Orlando Pirates could also only conjure a point from their home fixture at Orlando Stadium. Ntsikelelo Nyauza opened the scoring for the hosts but Nathan Sinkala’s header earned Stellenbosch FC a share of the spoils.
Golden Arrows registered their first league win since February with a 3-1 thumping of SuperSport United at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont to move up to third place on the log standings, at this early stage of the season.
Cape Town City also registered their first win of the campaign, thanks to an early goal from Mduduzi Mdantsane against a Maritzburg United side who had Riyaaz Ismail sent off in the first-half.
That was also the case for TS Galaxy who claimed their first top-flight victory: beating AmaZulu 1-0 at Mbombela Stadium courtesy of a solitary strike from Wayde Lekay.
Last season’s GladAfrica Championship winners, Swallows FC, are also up and running in the top-flight after they beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 at Dobsonville Stadium.
As a result, Baroka FC remain top of the standings with six points from two matches while Limpopo rivals Black Leopards remain rooted to the bottom.
