The growing pressure on Kaizer Chiefs and new coach Gavin Hunt is the major talking point as South Africa’s DStv Premiership heads into Round 3 of the 2020-21 season this midweek.

Chiefs may have claimed their first league win last Tuesday when they edged Chippa United away from home, but any reprieve was short lived as this past weekend saw them hammered 3-0 at arch rivals Orlando Pirates in the first leg of their MTN8 semifinal.

“So there’s not much I can say. Long road, long road, lot of work and we’ll try battle on and regroup and go again,” the Amakhosi mentor said in the wake of the defeat.

“The first half there we should have been 2-0 up before they scored. We haven’t scored a goal in four games now, the strikers.”

He added, “The defending is a lot to be desired. Honestly, I don’t think it’s a three-nil game if I’m honest. Turnovers and then a big long ball down the back of us. So ja, lot to work on.”

Chiefs will be in action at ‘Soccer City’ on Wednesday evening, playing host to top-flight newcomers TS Galaxy. The Rockets famously beat the Soweto giants in the final of the 2019 Nedbank Cup and have made a good start to the Premiership, claiming four points from two matches.

The midweek round opens with one game on Tuesday evening, which sees Chippa United and Maritzburg United both desperate for their first win of the season when they clash at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

A busy Wednesday sees heavyweights Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates both face tricky away games, as they head to Cape Town City and Bloemfontein Celtic respectively, while surprise log leaders Baroka FC will chase a third successive win when they host Golden Arrows, and AmaZulu host Black Leopards in what is already looking like a potential relegation six-pointer.
