Raja Casablanca coach Jamal Sellami has promised that his side will triumph in Cairo this evening and reach the final of the CAF Champions League.
Raja will face hosts Zamalek and look to overturn a 1-0 deficit in a second-leg semifinal which has been delayed twice due to an outbreak of Covid-19 in the ranks of the Moroccan club.
“Zamalek is a tough opponent but we will score in Egypt and we will beat them,” Sellami told a Moroccan radio station this past weekend, as per Ahram Online. “I promise our fans that we will perform well and reach the final.”
He added, “I know that the game will be tough for us but we are ready for all challenges. My team is not physically fit in comparison with Zamalek but I have many experienced players who are capable of making the difference in any moment during the game.”
Raja haven’t played a match in any competition since losing the first leg on October 18, when Zamalek’s Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki netted the winner in the first half at Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca.
Sellami also told Moroccan newspaper Al-Mountakhab, as per Ahram Online, that the postponements have allowed them to welcome back many players who recovered from the virus.
“We also had the chance to recover the players who were absent from the first leg match due to muscular injuries, although the lack of team trainings will affect the players’ fitness,” he explained.
“But in such games, it is the team spirit that controls the team. Raja’s players have shown many examples of strong cohesion.
“We will be ready for the game on all levels. It will be a tense encounter and will witness many surprises,” he concluded.
The aggregate winner of the tie will face Al Ahly in the final in Cairo on November 27.
