Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of Geoffrey Kondogbia for a reported fee of around €10 million. The Central African Republic international has passed his medical and penned a contract until 2024.
Kondogbia starts life at the Wanda Metropolitano following three years at LaLiga rivals Valencia who he joined initially on-loan in 2017. He completed a permanent move to the Mestalla from Inter in 2018 and scored seven goals in 104 appearances for the club across all competitions.
Los Rojiblancos were given special permission to sign the 27-year-old following Thomas Partey’s deadline day move to Arsenal. The Gunners signed the Ghana international after triggering the €50 million release clause in his contract.
Atleti were duly given until November 5 to sign his replacement and Kondogbia was identified by Diego Simeone as the perfect candidate to fill the Black Stars midfielder’s boots.
The French-born midfielder started his professional career at RC Lens before moving to Sevilla in 2012. Kondogbia joined Monaco a year later before moving to the San Siro and eventually Valencia.
