Mamelodi Sundowns moved back to the top of the DStv Premiership standings following a 2-0 win over Cape Town City on Wednesday evening.

The defending champions flexed their muscles against what has been a bogey team for them over the last few seasons. Goals from Lyle Lakay and Keletso Makgalwa was enough to lead the Brazilians to all three points on the day.

Baroka FC relinquished their place atop the standings with a 1-1 draw at home to Golden Arrows. A stoppage-time goal from Velemseni Ndwandwe secured a share of the spoils for the visiting side at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

AmaZulu registered their first win of the season at home to bottom-placed Black Leopards who succumbed to a third straight defeat.

A brace from Luvuyo Memela leading Usuthu to a 2-0 win and all three points while Swallows moved up to third by beating winless Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandil by the same scoreline in Thohoyandou, as Ruzaigh Gamildien continued his strong start to the campaign.

Kaizer Chiefs’ early season woes continued as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to TS Galaxy in a match which Wayde Lekay missed a penalty for the Rockets. Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates had no such problems and beat Bloemfontein Celtic thanks a late strike from Siphesihle Ndlovu.

SuperSport United also profited from a late winner as they climbed up to fourth. Teboho Mokoena netted a trademark long range goal for Matsatsantsa in a 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Chippa United beat Maritzburg United 3-1 in the opening game of matchday three, played on Tuesday evening at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
