Legendary Egyptian striker Ahmed ‘Mido’ Hassan has slammed Mohamed Salah after the latter tested positive for coronavirus.
The Liverpool FC star missed Egypt’s two back-to-back 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Togo after contracting the virus.
Salah, who attended his brother’s wedding before heading to the national team camp, tested positive for COVID-19 after undergoing two consecutive tests.
“Salah came from England for national duty and he attended his brother’s wedding. He risked his and his teammates’ health and committed this error,” Mido said on King Fut.
“He is allowed to celebrate with brother but not in coronavirus era. These things don’t happen outside Egypt, the world is laughing on us.
“We lost Egypt’s most important player whom we depend on in crucial games because of his carelessness and irresponsibility.”
Egypt’s Ministry of Health have announced that they expect Salah to test negative for the virus on Thursday with Liverpool set to face Leicester City in a Premier League match on Sunday.
Salah’s Egypt teammate Mohamed Elneny also tested positive for coronavirus after the Pharaohs’ 1-0 win over Togo in Cairo over the weekend.
The Arsenal defensive midfielder grabbed an assist in the victory over Togo’s Sparrow Hawks at the Cairo International Stadium.
Elneny is expected to miss the Gunners’ Premier League clash against Leeds United on Sunday.
