Cameroon-born 16-year-old striker Youssoufa Moukoko has become the youngest-ever player to feature in a Bundesliga match.
The teenager set a new record for the German top flight when he appeared as a late substitute for Borussia Dortmund in their clash with Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
Moukoko replaced Erling Haaland in the 85th minute of BVB’s 5-2 triumph at the Olympiastadion, just one day after turning 16, having been fast-tracked into the first team following his incredible exploits for the club’s academy.
He has scored 141 goals in 88 youth games, including 13 in just four appearances for the club’s U19 side this season.
The previous record for the youngest Bundesliga player was held by former Dortmund player Nuri Sahin, who made his debut in 2006 at the age of 16 years and 11 months.
Haaland, who himself is a young prodigy and scored four goals in the 5-2 victory, says Moukoko has amazing potential.
“I would love to play alongside him,” Haaland told the Bundesliga’s official website, having previously described the teenager as “much better than I was at his age”.
“I think he’s the biggest talent in the world right now. He’s 16 years and one day old, that’s amazing. He has a big career ahead of him. We’re lucky to have him.”
