Sunday afternoon in South Africa’s Absa Premiership saw 14 goals scored across three games, with champions Mamelodi Sundowns continuing to lead the way after a thrilling 4-3 win over AmaZulu.
The Brazilians’ victory was inspired by a first-half hat-trick from reigning player of the season Themba Zwane, though Usuthu fought back bravely in the second stanza and very nearly snatched a point at Loftus Stadium.
‘Downs enjoy a two-point lead at the top of the log over Moroka Swallows and Orlando Pirates after four completed rounds.
Just a point further back lies Baroka FC, though their unbeaten start is at an end after succumbing 1-0 away to Limpopo rivals Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila at Thohoyandou Stadium.
TTM registered their first top-flight league win thanks to a last-gasp goal from Justin Shonga, having put together a dominant performance which deserved a more emphatic score line.
Another goal-laden game saw Cape Town City rise to fifth place, just three points off Sundowns, thanks to a 4-2 home win over Bloemfontein Celtic.
Mduduzi Mdantsane, Fagrie Lakay and Thabo Nodada (two) netted as the Citizens picked up their second win of the season, while Phunya Sele Sele are placed only above rock-bottom Maritzburg United on the standings.
The DStv Premiership will resume with four rescheduled midweek fixtures, headlined by a revival of a classic Soweto rivalry between Swallows FC and Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday, November 24.
