Wilfried Zaha has become the latest English Premier League player to test positive for Covid-19.
The Ivory Coast international was absent from Crystal Palace’s 1-0 loss away to Burnley in the Premier League on Monday evening with manager Roy Hodgson confirming that the winger is self-isolating, after a positive coronavirus test.
“He has tested positive unfortunately for coronavirus so is self-isolating, and is awaiting the results of the next test. He is not feeling particularly ill, but unfortunately the test proved [positive], and he is following the procedures,” Hodgson said before kick-off.
He added: “We’ve known about it for a few days. We didn’t want to broadcast it to the world because we were rather hoping that the second test might free him to play.”
Belgium international Michy Batshuayi replaced Zaha in the starting line-up but Palace struggled without the 28-year-old who has scored five goals in eight Premier League games for the Eagles this season.
Zaha missed both of Ivory Coast’s 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers against Madagascar this month due to family responsibilities in England.
Palace return to action as soon as Friday evening with a home match versus Newcastle United at Selhurst Park.
