Nigeria international Alex Iwobi has been compared with Brazilian legend Maicon and Colombian star Juan Cuadrado.
This comes after the versatile attacker caught the eye as a right-back during Everton’s 3-2 win over Fulham in an English Premier League match on Sunday.
Micah Richards, who is a former England and Manchester City defender, was particularly pleased by Iwobi’s performance in the right-back position.
“They played against Fulham, so you know you will get more time and space,” Richards said on Liverpool Echo.
“I think it’s perfect for Iwobi. He can pick up the ball a little deeper and dribble into spaces and not have to worry about where he is going to be.”
Maicon was considered one of the best right-backs in world football during his playing days having turned out for English giants Manchester City and Italian clubs Inter Milan and AS Roma.
While former Chelsea star Cuadrado is one of the top versatile players in world football as he can operate as a winger and full-back and he is currently on the books of Italian champions Juventus.
“I played with (Juan) Cuadrado at Fiorentina, who was an attack-minded right-back and it really did work,” Richards added.
“I played with Maicon at Man City as well, who had great equity in the box. Iwobi had that today.
“If they were playing against Arsenal or Manchester City, it might have been defensive but it worked well for them today.”
Iwobi has played eight matches in the Premier League for Everton this term including two starts.
