Nigerian giants Enyimba are confident of a successful foray into the CAF Champions League this weekend despite not having been in competitive domestic action for months.
Enyimba are set to face Burkina Faso’s Rahimo FC in the first leg of their 2020-21 CAFCL preliminary round tie on Sunday, November 29.
With the new season of the Nigerian Professional Football League only set to begin in December (after the last campaign was halted in March and then scrapped entirely), The People’s Elephant may have been in danger of entering the clash undercooked, but they have been busy playing in friendly tournaments and coach Fatai Osho is confident his team will be sharp.
“We just finished the pre-season here in Aba and we came out the winner. With that, we are able to see where we are doing well and where we need to work on, that’s the beauty of all these pre-season competitions, it gives the opportunity to assess the team and compare the standard with others,” Osho is quoted by The Punch.
“Going forward, where we know we are lacking, we are working so hard to correct those areas. Where we are doing well also, we are polishing them so we can get better and make them permanent with our players.”
Despite defeating Rahimo 5-1 on aggregate in last season’s preliminary round of the CAFCL, the Enyimba coach is not taking anything for granted – especially as the Burkinabe team has been in regular competitive action.
“Even though we defeated Rahimo at this stage of the competition last season, we still believe that the game will not be an easy task and we are ready to give our best because their season has been on and they would be in week 13 by this weekend,” Osho added.
