Al Ahly were crowned Caf Champions League champions for a record-extending ninth time on Friday evening, following a 2-1 win over arch-rivals Zamalek at the Cairo International Stadium.
The Red Devils hit the front after just five minutes when Amr El Sulaya bundled the ball home from a corner-kick.
Shikabala levelled matters for the White Knights with a stunning solo goal. After weaving his way past a few defenders he produced an unstoppable left-footed shot that whistled into the top corner of the net.
It was going to take something special to top that and Mohamed Magdi duly obliged in the 86th minute. The midfielder struck home a crisp volley from range in the dying moments of the match to lead Al Ahly to their first Champions League crown since 2013.
For South Africa’s Pitso Mosimane it also proved to be a historic night as he became only the third head coach to win Africa’s premier club competition with two different teams, following his success with Mamelodi Sundowns four years ago.
