On the day of his 32nd birthday we look back at Sunday Mba’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) winning goal.

The midfielder, who has been without a club since leaving Yeni Malatyaspor in 2017, emerged as Nigeria’s unlikely hero at FNB Stadium in South Africa.

Mba had also scored the Super Eagles’ winner in their quarter-final victory over Ivory Coast and was the only name on the scoresheet in a 1-0 win over Burkina Faso in the final, as Nigeria claimed a third Afcon title.

After latching onto Victor Moses’ blocked shot, Mba flicked the ball over an onrushing defender before striking home a left-footed volley into the corner of the net.
