The new seasons of both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup are well and truly underway with a combined 17 preliminary round matches — scattered across the African continent — having taken place on Sunday, 29 November.

All eyes were on Limbe in the day’s headline showdown between South African giants Kaizer Chiefs and Cameroon’s Elite One champions PWD Bamenda. The Amakhosi claimed a valuable 1-0 first-leg win over their opponents with Erick Mathoho netting the only goal of the game, while Itumeleng Khune saved a late penalty for the visitors.

Elsewhere, two-time Caf Champions League champions Enyimba beat Burkina Faso’s Rahimo 1-0 courtesy of a second-half goal from Victor Mbaoma.

There were also notable away wins for Nkana, Petro Atletico, Stade Malien and Simba with Clatous Chama netting the Tanzanian’s solitary goal in Nigeria.

The biggest win on the day belonged to NAPSA Stars in the Confederation Cup with the Zambian’s running out comfortable 5-1 winners away to Ngazi Sport in Comoros.

There were also wins for Bloemfontein Celtic and Cameroon’s Cotonsport who are well known competitors on the African continent.
