Mohammed Salisu could finally make his Premier League debut this month.
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl has revealed that Salisu is in contention to feature in the club’s matchday squad for the first time when they travel to Amex Stadium to take on Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday evening.
Salisu, 21, joined the Premier League club from Real Valladolid in August, but has yet to feature for the Saints with injury having played its part in stalling his progress.
While there were no guarantees from Hasenhüttl that the Ghanian centre-back would feature he hinted that he could be considered alongside the potential returns of Danny Ings and Nathan Redmond.
“Ingsy and Reddy are starting to train now and this week will be part of the sessions and then we will have a look how competitive they are. Sali is also a step further forward in his development, so we have a few more alternatives in the future and this is good,” said Hasenhüttl as per the club’s official website.
“All of these players it is possible they are in the squad on Monday. We will have a look for whom it is possible and for whom it is too early.
“Now is the busiest time of the year, and in the beginning of this time we seem to have everybody back and fit in the team and we need everybody now, this is for sure, because now becomes a busy time.”
Southampton will be aiming for a return to winning ways after having their unbeaten run broken by Manchester United in a 3-2 defeat last weekend. The Saints head into matchday eleven in sixth spot, four points behind the leaders.
