Guinea captain Naby Keita has handed injury-hit Liverpool FC a boost ahead of their clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Keita and English right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold were set to join their teammates in Friday afternoon’s session.
Keita, who is a box-to-box midfielder by trade, limped out of Liverpool’s win over Leicester City in an English Premier League match just under a fortnight ago.
However, the pair will could come into contention for Sunday’s Anfield Stadium fixture with Wolves as Liverpool look to return to winning ways in the Premier League after drawing with Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend.
“I don’t know yet, we will see. Trent and Naby will do the first steps in team training today; whatever we can do with that depends on how it looks,” Klopp told the club’s official website.
“There are some niggles after the game against Ajax and we have to see how they respond.”
Keita, who has struggled with injuries since he joined Liverpool from German club RB Leipzig in July 2018, has made 68 appearances for the Reds and netted seven goals in the process.
“So far, they didn’t do a lot apart from treatment and stuff like this. We have to see how that develops [but] I don’t know in the moment,” he added.
“There is a chance Naby and Trent can be in the squad, I would say. If they can play, I don’t know. If they are in the squad then they can play.
“But if they can start or play 90 minutes, I don’t know. I think there’s a chance they are in the squad, yes. Apart from Naby and Trent, nobody is coming back, no.”
Keita, 25, has featured in eight matches across all competitions this term.
