Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane was delighted after his side secured the treble on Saturday night.
The Red Devils defeated Tala’a El-Gaish 3-2 on penalties to win a record-extending 37th Egypt Cup title.
Mosimane praised his charges and he compared them to the older generations following the encounter which ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
“We played against a strong Tala’a El-Gaish team, and the ground at Borg Al Arab stadium was not in its best condition,” Mosimane said on King Fut.
“The current Al Ahly players are writing their names into the club’s history like the golden generation led by [Mohamed] Abou-Trika and his teammates.
Mosimane has enjoyed a lot of success since he joined Al Ahly from South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns in October 2020.
The Red Devils also clinched the CAF Champions League and Egyptian Premier League titles under Mosimane’s guidance in the 2019/20 season.
“I want to thank Mahmoud El-Khatib [club president], Al Ahly management, the technical staff, the players, and everyone who participated in these achievements,” he added.
“I also thank my family and Al Ahly fans. When I was at Sundowns, I was eliminated from the Champions League
“But then I won the same tournament, and this is luck, but I have to be in a special place in order for this luck to help me achieve titles.”
Al Ahly won the Premier League title under Swiss coach Rene Weiner in September 2020 and Mosimane was in charge of the last few matches in the competition.
