Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is delighted with Wilfried Zaha’s newfound form in front of goal.

The Ivory Coast international scored twice as the Eagles returned to winning ways with a 5-1 thumping of 10-man West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Sunday.

Zaha made a return to the starting eleven for the first time after recovering from Covid-19 and the 28-year-old marked his comeback from self-isolation in the best possible way.

He has now scored seven goals in nine Premier League appearances this season and is by far Palace’s top goalscorer in the division, with the club as a whole having netted 17 times in 11 matches.

“We know he has that ability. When he can get the ball in the final third, he’s very difficult to stop,” Hodgson said of Zaha.

“What he’s added this year is goalscoring, he’s always looking to get shots away. That first goal I see a lot in training – it’s not a fluke. If he can keep that up, that bodes well for us.”

Zaha, who has spent the majority of his career at Selhurst Park, came close to leaving Palace for Arsenal last year but the Gunners decided instead on signing his Ivorian teammate Nicolas Pepe.

In total, Zaha has scored 64 goals in 371 appearances for Palace.
