Ivorian star Franck Kessie says AC Milan’s main target is to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
The Red and Blacks extended their lead to top five points on the Italian Serie A standings following a 2-1 victory against Sampdoria on Sunday night.
Kessie opened the scoring for Milan, who are now have five-point lead above second-placed Inter Milan.
The last time Red and Blacks played in the Champions League was during the 2013/14 season and Kessie is keen to help the team return to Europe’s elite club tournament.
“We have an amazing group, we knew the game would be tough but we fought until the end,” Kessie told Sky Italia via Milan Live.
“It’s not easy to play without two experienced players like them [Simon Kjaer and Zlatan Ibrahimovic], but we did what the coach told us to take the three points home.
“Our target is to qualify for the Champions League. We can’t lose our heads and continue like this, the dream is to get a Champions League placement.”
Milan are the most successful team in the history of the Champions League as they boast of seven titles.
Kessie has been in top form this season having netted four goals in 10 league matches from midfield for Milan.
He has also made seven appearances in the UEFA Europa League for the Red and Blacks.
