Mamelodi Sundowns star midfielder Themba Zwane believes the current team has the ability to set a new points record in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in the 2020-21 season.
The Brazilians hold the record for the most points in a 16-team league season in South Africa, registering 71 points in their triumphant 2015-16 campaign.
A mere 59 points was enough for ‘Downs to claim the title ahead of Kaizer Chiefs (57) last season, but reigning player of the year Zwane reckons his team could rack up a much higher total this time around. ‘Downs have already put up 14 points from six matches so far in 2020-21.
“We can do it. Why not? With the quality we have and the way we’ve started, it’s really possible to go beyond 71 points. If we can remain consistent we can do it,’’ Zwane is quoted by Sowetan Live.
“It’s very difficult [to always play] at Sundowns. You can see the quality players that are there. So as a player you always have to work hard. Consistency books you a ticket to play the next game.”
Sundowns, who drew 1-1 with Maritzburg United last weekend, will return to DStv Premiership action on Tuesday, December 15 with a home match against TS Galaxy.
