Former Cameroon international Joel Matip and Guinea captain Naby Keita have picked up new injuries.
The Reds have announced that they will await further diagnosis on the adductor issue Matip sustained during Liverpool FC’s clash with West Bromwich Albion on Sunday night.
The lanky defender was forced to leave the field on the hour mark after picking up an injury and the English Premier League game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on Matip’s injury following the encounter which took place at the Anfield Stadium.
“Joel told me he felt something in his adductor and that’s obviously not too good,” Klopp told the club’s official website.
“I am not sure how serious it is now, but it was serious enough that he had to leave the pitch. The rest of the information I will get tomorrow.”
Matip has had a back injury and thigh muscle strain this season which has seen him miss some of the Reds’ UEFA Champions League and Premier League games.
Meanwhile, Liverpool were without Keita for the fixture against West Brom and he has also struggled with injuries this year.
Klopp expects the central midfielder to also miss Liverpool’s trip to Newcastle United on Wednesday.
“He felt a muscle again. I don’t know exactly how long [it will be], but he was not ready for today and not for Wednesday, I think. We will see,” he said.
Keita has already missed competitive matches this season due to thigh muscle issues and a knee injury.
