Ex-Cameroon international Joel Matip will be out of action for around three weeks, according to Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp.
The towering central defender sustained an adductor strain during the Reds’ 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion in an English Premier League game at Anfield on Sunday.
Matip subsequently missed the trip to Newcastle United on Wednesday as Liverpool recorded a 0-0 draw in another league encounter.
German tactician Klopp provided an update on Matip after the encounter which was played at St James’ Park.
“The normal stuff with these kind of injuries, [he will be out for] around about three weeks,” Klopp said on the club’ official website.
Matip has had a back injury and thigh muscle strain this season which has seen him miss some of the Reds’ UEFA Champions League and Premier League games.
Liverpool have been hit by injuries this season with players such as Naby Keita, Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Diogo Jota all out nursing injuries at the moment.
Matip has played eight matches in the Premier League this season and netted once in the process, while Keita has played seven games in the league this term and he is currently nursing a muscle injury.
