Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen will continue to remain unavailable for Italian side Napoli after testing positive for Covid-19.
The Super Eagles star returned a positive test upon his return to Italy, having been granted leave to spend time in Lagos over the festive season.
“Napoli report that footballer Victor Osimhen tested positive for the molecular naso-pharyngeum swab on his return from abroad yesterday afternoon. The player is asymptomatic and has not met the team group,” the club posted on Twitter.
Osimhen will go into isolation and only return to the Napoli group once he returns negative tests, further extending his time on the sidelines.
The 22-year-old has been out of action since dislocating his shoulder while playing for Nigeria in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania in November 2020.
Osimhen has netted two goals in eight Serie A matches since joining the Neapolitans ahead of the 2020-21 season.
The Nigerian will definitely miss tomorrow’s clash against Cagliari and his return for the Neapolitans will depend on how quickly he can return a negative Covid test and how far his rehabilitation of the shoulder injury has progressed.
