Swallows FC and Stellenbosch FC started the new year with victories in the DStv Premiership on Tuesday evening.

Stellies grabbed two second-half goals to secure a routine 2-0 victory over Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.

Marc Van Heerden opened the scoring to make it 1-0 to Stellenbosch in the 75th minute after being set-up by Daniel Van Rooyen.

Phathutshedzo Nange then sealed Stellenbosch’s 2-0 victory with his first goal for the club with nine minutes left on the clock.

Meanwhile, Swallows edged out Cape Town City 3-2 in an enthralling encounter at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.

Ruzaigh Gamiliden netted two quick goals in the 39th minute and 41st minute to hand Swallows a 2-0 lead heading in the half-time break.

City pulled one back through Mduduzi Mdantsane nine minutes into the second-half, but Junaid Sait restored Swallows’ two-goal lead with 14 minutes left.

Mdantsane completed his brace in stoppage time, but his goal proved to be a consolation as Swallows held on to win 3-2.

Lastly, Baroka were held to a 2-2 draw by TS Galaxy in a four-goal thriller at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

Ananias Gebhardt and Gerald Phiri scored two quick goals in the 54th minute and on the hour-mark respectively to hand Baroka a 2-0 lead.
