Ghana vice-captain Thomas Partey could make his return from a thigh injury against Crystal Palace on Thursday.
This is according to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta as the Spanish tactician provided an injury update on the influential central midfielder.
Arsenal paid £45 million ($61m) to bring Partey to England from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid at the beginning of the current season.
However, injuries have disrupted Partey’s start to life at the London giants which has seen him miss some Premier League, UEFA Europa League and FA Cup matches.
“Yes, because we assessed the situation, how much training he’s done, the boxes that he ticked and he was still a little bit short,” Arteta said on Goal.
The retired central midfielder indicated that he might include Partey in the match-day squad which will face Palace in the London Derby clash on Thursday.
“Hopefully we will have him in the squad on Thursday. Let’s see how he trains in the next couple of days. He’s really good at the moment,” he added.
The 27-year-old has played six matches across all competitions for Arsenal this season.
His last game for the Gunners was against Tottenham Hotspur on December 12.
