Cameroon has agreed to allow a restricted number of fans to attend matches at the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), as reported by New Times.

The continental tournament, which kicks off on Saturday 16 January and will run to 7 February, is set to benefit from a resolution by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) authorising fan attendance.

According to Cameroon’s Sports and Physical Education Ministry, CAF ordered that the number of fans should be 25 percent of the full capacity at each of the stadiums that will host group matches, including the opening game between the host team and Zimbabwe at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde.

The attendance will rise to 50 percent of a venue’s capacity for the semifinals and final, but all spectators are required to respect the Covid-19 protocols at venues, including wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing.

The CHAN tournament was originally scheduled to be played in April 2020, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cameroon will hope a successful hosting of this continental tournament further enhances their readiness for the next Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to be held in the country in January and February 2022.
