Neither Swallows FC nor SuperSport United were able to capitalize on Mamelodi Sundowns’ slip up in Wednesday’s 2020-21 DStv Premiership action.
The Brazilians were held to a 0-0 draw by Bloemfontein Celtic on Tuesday, affording both Swallows and SuperSport the chance to climb up to the summit of the league standings, but neither were able to win on Wednesday.
Swallows opened the scoring at Dobsonville Stadium through the in-form Ruzaigh Gamildien but could only conjure a 1-1 draw at home to Chippa United. The result leaves them level on 26 points with Sundowns who they face in Tshwane on Saturday.
SuperSport needed a late Bradley Grobler penalty to hold AmaZulu to a 1-1 draw at Lucas Moripe Stadium to remain two points off the pace. The goal was Grobler’s 11th of the league season and keeps him two goals clear of Gamildien in the race for the golden boot.
TS Galaxy climbed off the bottom of the league standings and up to 12th with a 3-0 thumping of Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium. Wayde Lekay, Lindokuhle Mbatha and Felix Badenhorst were all on target for the Rockets as Owen da Gama claimed his first win as coach of the club.
Cape Town City also returned to winning ways in the league with a 2-0 victory at Black Leopards. Surprise Ralani netted a brace in the Limpopo province as Jan Olde Riekerink became the first City manager to win in Thohoyandou.
Arrows, like Sundowns and Swallows, remain unbeaten this season after a 0-0 draw at Orlando Pirates while Baroka snapped their winless run in the league with a 3-2 win away to Stellenbosch FC. Evidence Makgopa bagged a brace for Bakgaga.
