SuperSport make it three-way tie, Arrows suffer first loss

Sunday’s action in South Africa’s DStv Premiership saw SuperSport United move level at the top of the log as part of a three-way tie, after claiming a 2-0 away win over Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday afternoon.


The result – secured by goals from Bradley Grobler and Sipho Mbule – sees Matsatsantsa join Mamelodi Sundowns and Swallows FC on 27 points. ‘Downs lead on goal difference, with United second and the Birds third. Vhadau Vha Damani, meanwhile, remain bottom of the log.


Elsewhere, Cape Town City became the first team to defeat Golden Arrows in the Premiership this season, claiming a thrilling 4-2 win at Cape Town Stadium.


The Citizens ended Abafana Bes’thende’s unbeaten start at 11 matches, thanks to goals from Craig Martin, Taariq Fielies, Mduduzi Mdantsane and Fagrie Lakay, and also move to fourth place on the log – just five points from the summit. The Durban side drop to sixth in the log, a further three points back.


The DStv Premiership will continue with four midweek matches on 26-27 January, with South Africa’s four CAF club representatives this season all in action: Orlando Pirates, Bloemfontein Celtic, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.
