Mamelodi Sundowns shrugged off the inconvenience of being down to 10 men to defeat Black Leopards 2-1 in the lone DStv Premiership match played on Wednesday, opening up a three-point lead at the top of the log.
The Brazilians looked likely to either record a fourth straight draw or possibly suffer a first defeat when they were being held 1-1 by Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium, but – while down a man after the dismissal of Mothobi Mvala – they managed to claim all three points with an injury-time winner from Peter Shalulile.
The Namibian also netted Sundowns’ equaliser earlier in the game to cancel out Lidoda Duvha’s opener from Ovidy Karuru in the first minute of the second half.
Wednesday’s other scheduled match between Bloemfontein Celtic and Chippa United was called off due to waterlogged pitch at the Dr Molemela Stadium.
The DStv Premiership will continue with a full round of fixtures on the coming weekend, 29-31 January, headlined by the Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, as well as a meeting of high flyers SuperSport United and Swallows FC.
