Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane is not thinking about the prospect of coming up against Bayern Munich at the Fifa Club World Cup in Qatar this month, as the African champions prepare to face Al-Duhail at the Education City Stadium on Thursday evening.
The Red Devils booked their spot at the global showpiece after winning a record-extending ninth Caf Champions League title in November last year.
Al Ahly will face Qatari club Al-Duhail for a place in the Club World Cup semi-finals and the right to take on Uefa Champions League holders Bayern.
“They have good defenders like Moroccan Medhi Benatia, who once played for Juventus, and some sharp Brazilian forwards,” said Mosimane of Al-Duhail.
“A lot of our supporters are already talking about Bayern and their stars, but we can play them only if we get past Duhail, who are just as ambitious as us.
“I told my players that every Egyptian will be supporting us because we are here to represent all of them. We are also in Qatar to wave the African flag and I have received best wishes from many South Africans.”
Mosimane, 56, has experience in the Club World Cup having led Mamelodi Sundowns to the competition following their victory in the 2016 Caf Champions League.
Al Ahly’s best finish at the global event was third back in 2006. Egyptian football legend Mohamed Aboutrika scored a brace in a 2-1 win over Club America as the Red Devils claimed the bronze medal in Japan.
