There were only two 2020-21 DStv Premiership matches on Saturday amid the return of Caf Champions League and Caf Confederation Cup action on the African continent.
SuperSport United made good use of Mamelodi Sundowns’ inactivity in the league with a 2-1 win over Cape Town City at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Thamsanqa Gabuza provided the desired impact off the bench for Matsatsanta who duly moved within two points of Sundowns, who occupy top spot in the Premiership. City remain in sixth following a second straight defeat, 10 points off top spot.
Gamphani Lungu opened the scoring for SuperSport on the outskirts of Tshwane before Bradley Ralani’s equaliser, but SuperSport were not to be denied as Gabuza rose off the bench to score for the sixth time this season.
Earlier, 10-man Bloemfontein Celtic held Chippa United to a 1-1 draw at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium.
Siwelele played most of the game with a man less following a red card to Tshepo Rikhotso on the cusp half-time. Victor Letsoalo opened the scoring for the hosts from the penalty spot before Bienvenu Eva Nga’s second-half equaliser.
A point was enough to move Celtic up to eighth while Chippa remained 13th on the league standings, five points above the relegation zone.
