Raja, Pirates & Enyimba grab first-leg advantages

Raja Casablanca, Orlando Pirates and Enyimba recorded victories in their 2020/21 CAF Confederation Cup playoff round first-leg matches on Sunday.

Mahmoud Benhalib’s first-half goal inspired Moroccan giants Raja to a 1-0 victory over Tunisian side Monastir at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca.

Former Tunisian champions Etoile du Sahel secured a 2-1 win over Young Buffaloes of Eswatini courtesy of a brace from Souleymane Coulibaly at the Trade Fair Ground in Manzini.

While South African giants Pirates proved too strong for Botswana champions Jwaneng Galaxy as they claimed a 3-0 win at Botswana’s National Stadium in Gaborone.

At the Enyimba International Stadium, Enyimba claimed a 1-0 victory against fellow Nigerian club Rivers United in Aba with Cyril Olisemah scoring the only goal of the match.

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko suffered a 2-1 defeat to Algerian side ES Setif after their Guinean striker Naby Keita missed a late penalty at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra.

In Nairobi, Kenya, Gor Mahia succumbed to a surprise 1-0 home defeat to Zambian outfit NAPSA Stars at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Malian giants Stade de Malien edged out Algerian side JS Kabylie 1-0 at home, while Egypt’s big spenders, Pyramids claimed a 2-0 away win against Ivorian club Racing d’Abidjan.

Zimbabwean outfit FC Platinum suffered a 1-0 home loss to Senegalese club Jaraaf and Nkana of Zambia brushed aside Moroccan side TAS Casablanca 2-0 at home.

Meanwhile, Libyan giants Al Ahly Benghazi held Motema Pembe of DR Congo to a 1-1 draw at home, while Nigerien side SONIDEP lost 1-0 to Cameroon’s Cotonsport at home.

Lastly, Gabonese outfit Bouenguidi claimed a 1-0 home victory against Burkina Faso giants Salitas, while former Tunisian champions CS Sfaxien thumped Rwanda’s AS Kigali 4-1 at home on Saturday.
