Former Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Barcelona winger Luis Garcia has reserved special praise for Morocco international Youssef En-Nesyri.

February 10th marked 92 years since the first match in LaLiga history and in celebration, South Africa media was joined by Garcia, who now serves as an ambassador to the Spanish league’s top division, on a conference call.

Garcia enjoyed a glittering career and played professionally in Spain, England, Greece, Mexico, Australia and India before hanging up his boots five years ago.

The 42-year-old has been impressed by Sevilla’s En-Nesyri this season. The Morroccan forward has scored 13 times in 22 LaLiga appearances in the current campaign and his form has not gone unnoticed by Garica or West Ham United, who were seriously interested in signing the 23-year-old last month.

“En-Nesyri is on fire! I saw him playing in Sevilla’s 2-0 win against FC Barcelona [in the Copa del Rey], he unfortunately was unlucky as he didn’t get a lot of opportunities,” Garcia said, “He is the second highest goalscorer with 13 goals in LaLiga – and recently scored two hat-tricks. He was fantastic.

“He hasn’t had it easy due to past season performances, but he has arrived. He is doing great, but still can improve on a lot of factors and contribute a lot to the game. He continues to grow – he has the skill, the pace, he is good in the air, he can hold the ball. It’s important to have such a plan in your team.”

Furthermore, Garcia said that he is keeping a close eye on Central African Republic and Atletico Madrid midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia’s progress at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.

“I’d like to see him (Kondogbia) more as you know he has arrived and it will be difficult for him to automatically get a starting position because the level is very high, but so far he has done so well – so I expect him to play even more,” Garcia added.

Kondogbia, 28, joined Atleti from rivals Valencia in November as a direct replacement for Thomas Partey and has started two LaLiga matches for his new team thus far.
