Al Ahly manager Pitso Mosimane has stated that his team must avenge their group stage defeat to Simba SC when the teams meet again in Dar es Salaam this midweek for a CAF Champions League clash.
The Egyptian side will head to Tanzania for a second matchday fixture on Tuesday 23 February, with both teams having started Group A with victories: Simba 1-0 away to AS Vita and Ahly 3-0 at home to Al Merrikh.
The last meeting of Wekundu wa Msimbazi and the Red Devils in Dar es Salaam in February 2019 saw the home side claim a stunning 1-0 win, a result which helped them qualify for the quarterfinals of that season’s Champions League.
“We are equally prepared to face Simba, it is going to be a difficult game, Simba beat us last time we played here so maybe it is time we correct it,” Mosimane told reporters after the Egyptian giants touched down at the Julius Nyerere International Airport on Friday night, as quoted by Goal.
Al Ahly will be without five players – Ali Maaloul, Taher Mohamed Taher, Walid Soliman, Salah Mohsen (injured) and Hussein El-Shahat (suspended) – but Ayman Ashraf returns for selection.
